Challenge

The goal was to move beyond a traditional particle simulation and create an experience where language becomes part of the visual output. The challenge was to design an intuitive interaction that seamlessly connects text, speech, and motion while maintaining responsive performance.

Solution

Built with p5.js, the application converts typed or spoken words into particles that behave according to a custom sand simulation. Users can interact with the system through keyboard input, real-time speech recognition, or direct mouse interaction, allowing them to create and manipulate particle formations in multiple ways.

The project supports multiple languages, customizable particle colors, and a grid-based physics system that enables natural movement and accumulation. Randomized word placement ensures that each interaction generates a unique visual composition.

Beyond its experimental nature, the concept was envisioned as a potential live visual tool for concerts or performances, where spoken or sung lyrics could be transformed into evolving generative graphics in real time.

Outcome

The project demonstrates how creative coding can transform language into an interactive visual medium. By combining generative graphics, physics simulation, and real-time user input, it creates a playful experience that encourages experimentation while showcasing the expressive possibilities of p5.js.
